The Kind Pen Gags

Product intro and specs

The Kind Pen Gags is a new cordless desktop-style vaporizer designed for oils and dabs. It features a glass dome bowl that fills with thick, milky vapor clouds.

The Gags has an internal 1600mAh battery and offers four temperature settings controlled by a simple one-button interface. It includes two different coil heads and is compatible with any 510-threaded oil cartridge, making it a versatile 2-in-1 device.

The Kind Pen Gags comes covered by their signature lifetime warranty and is available in black, blue, or purple color options.

I’m reviewing the Gags courtesy of The Kind Pen. It retails for $219 and can be purchased at ejuice connect.

With its large battery, temperature control, interchangeable coils, and 510-cartridge compatibility, the Kind Pen Gags aims to be an advanced dual-use vaporizer for both oils and concentrates. I’m looking forward to testing out its performance.

The Kind Pen Gags features

The Gags functions like a desktop vaporizer but with a powerful internal 1600mAh battery and USB-C charging. It uses a simple single button to control the four temperature settings from 2.5-4V. There is also a session mode and auto shut-off feature.

It includes two interchangeable coil options – a ceramic disc for flavor and a quartz rod for bigger hits. The 510-threaded base allows using your favorite oil cartridges as well.

Despite its desktop size, the Gags weighs just over 1 pound for portability. The oversized 152.4mm tall, 58.42mm diameter glass bowl delivers large vapor clouds. The base measures 109.22mm wide by 58.42mm tall. A multi-color LED ring adorns the base.

Everything fits neatly into the packaging box for easy transport and storage. With its cordless operation, swappable coils, temperature control, and 510-cartridge compatibility, the Gags provides a versatile home vaporizer experience in a portable form factor.

How does it perform?

The Kind Pen Gags delivers excellent performance with both waxes and oil cartridges. An internal fan provides airflow over the coil, shooting vapor up into the glass bowl. The bowl fits snugly yet is easy to remove.

For Wax:

With the ceramic coil, flavor was smooth and nuanced across settings up to 4V. At 3.5-4V with terpy badder, all the gassy and fruity notes shone through. The triple quartz rods vaporized dabs aggressively – even low temps produced massive vapor. Flavor dropped off at max 4V but the vapor production was huge. Overall, it rivals a proper e-rig.

For Carts:

I tried Raw Garden live resin carts for flavor testing. At just 2.5V on the lowest setting, the differences between indica and sativa strains were apparent. The hits fill the bowl with deceptive smoothness until you exhale an enormous cloud. It delivers the equivalent of 3 pen hits in one giant, ultra-smooth rip.

The Gags performs more like a compact dab rig than a typical wax pen. Vapor pours steadily into the bowl for clears that rival an e-nail. The LEDs and glass fill create a fun user experience as well. For flavor-chasing, the low temp with cartridges shines. For big clouds, the quartz rods and higher temps excel. Truly an excellent dual-use vaporizer.

How to clean the Kind Pen Gags

  • Remove the glass dome bowl
  • Take off the rubber airflow piece
  • Pour isopropyl alcohol into the glass bowl
  • Add coarse sea salt and shake to scrub
  • Rinse thoroughly with water
  • Repeat as needed until fully clean
  • Use Q-tips and iso to swab out coil residue
  • Wipe down the base with an iso-soaked Q-tip
  • Ensure all parts are completely clean and dry before reassembling

Frequently cleaning the glass bowl prevents significant buildup. The salt and alcohol method effectively removes residue. Q-tips make it easy to access the tight spaces. Just remember to fully dry all the components before putting it back together and using again. Proper maintenance keeps the Gags performing like new.

Battery life and charging

The Kind Pen Gags has a 1600 mAh battery capacity. It does not have a battery level indicator; the device blinks red when the battery needs to be recharged. Using the included USB-C cable, I was able to fully charge the Gags in a little over 2 hours. With moderate use, I was able to get multiple days of usage before needing to recharge. Over several days of testing, I typically had 3-4 vaping sessions per day. Battery life will vary depending on usage patterns, session length, temperature settings, and other factors. But overall, the 1600 mAh battery provides ample capacity for portable, cordless use over an extended period before requiring recharging. The fast 2-hour recharge time using USB-C ensures the Gags is ready to use again quickly after the battery has been depleted.

Verdict

The Gags delivered excellent performance with both oils and waxes, outperforming most other e-rigs I’ve tested in this price range. Other than the minor drawbacks mentioned earlier, the Gags is a very capable device. The odd “Gags” branding seems like a missed opportunity when “Kind Rig” or something similar would have been more fitting.

However, if you’re looking for a quality cordless e-rig that also handles oil cartridges well, the Gags is definitely worth considering, especially with the included lifetime warranty. It’s built for daily use but has the power and battery life for group sessions too. I was very impressed with the vapor quality and versatility of the Kind Pen Gags. What was your experience with this dual-use wax pen and nectar collector? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts after trying it out. But overall, the performance and value make the Gags easy to recommend if you’re looking for a compact, portable e-rig.
